In accordance
with the state of Virginia and the federal government,
Radford City Public Schools enforces a compulsory attendance
policy requiring all students of school age to attend public
schools provided they are in good health and good standing in
the community. Our compulsory attendance policy is as
follows:
- Upon the
fifth (5) absence without parental notification to the school
or sufficient reason for missing school, the student’s parents
will be contacted and a conference will be established for the
purpose of improving the child’s attendance.
- Upon the
sixth (6) absence without parental notification to the school
or sufficient reason for missing school, the student’s parents
will again be contacted and another meeting will be scheduled
to further explore ways to improve the child’s attendance.
During this meeting the administration will express that the
next such absence will result in notification to Child
Services.
- Upon the
seventh (7) absence without parental notification to the
school or sufficient reason for missing school, the student
and parents will be referred to Child Services of Radford and
a Child in Need of Supervision (CHINS) petition will be filed.
Filing a CHINS petition may result in a summons for the family
to appear in Radford City Juvenile and Domestic Court for a
hearing before a judge.
